The West Africa Love and Growth Organisation Network (WALGON) has launched an initiative to empower young fashion designers and creative entrepreneurs by providing grants, professional tools and business support aimed at helping them build sustainable enterprises.

The programme is designed to equip emerging designers with the resources and skills needed to transform their talents into thriving businesses, while promoting innovation and job creation within Nigeria’s growing creative industry.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative, WALGON officials said the programme reflects the organization’s commitment to supporting youth entrepreneurship and fostering economic opportunities through the creative sector.

Participants will benefit from financial grants, modern design equipment, mentorship, business development training and networking opportunities with industry professionals. The initiative also seeks to improve participants’ access to markets and strengthen their capacity to compete in both local and international fashion industries.

According to the organization, the programme targets talented young people with innovative ideas but limited access to funding and professional resources, addressing one of the major challenges facing creative entrepreneurs across the country.

WALGON noted that Nigeria’s creative economy has significant potential to drive economic growth, create employment and contribute to national development if adequately supported through investment, skills development and access to finance.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that could help nurture the next generation of designers and creative business owners while encouraging innovation and self-reliance among young Nigerians.

The organization also encouraged public and private sector partners to invest more in the creative industry, stressing that sustained collaboration is essential to unlocking the sector’s full economic potential.

The programme forms part of WALGON’s broader efforts to promote youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and inclusive economic development through targeted interventions across various sectors.
