The Delta State Police Command has appealed to members of the public to provide information that could assist its investigation into the clash involving suspected supporters of the All Progressives Congress and Nigeria Democratic Congress in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.

The police also clarified reports concerning the recovery of an AK-47 rifle during the incident. According to the command, the weapon was not handed over to the police by anyone. It was discovered during a search of an old building near where officers rescued a man, Collins Egbara, from a mob.

The command said officers rescued Egbara after he was severely beaten and took him to hospital for treatment. He remains in protective custody and has not yet been able to give a statement.

Police said the ownership and circumstances surrounding the rifle’s recovery remain under investigation. The command added that anyone found connected to the weapon after investigations would face prosecution.

The police urged political parties and campaign organisers to notify security agencies early before holding rallies to ensure adequate security arrangements.
