Former BBC Radio DJ Tim Westwood is facing two further sexual assault charges as prosecutors continue proceedings over allegations of non-recent sexual offences.
The additional charges bring the case against the veteran broadcaster under renewed scrutiny as legal proceedings continue. Westwood has previously denied allegations of sexual misconduct and has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Prosecutors originally charged the 68-year-old with four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault. The allegations involve seven women and are said to relate to incidents between 1983 and 2016.
Westwood worked for BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra for almost two decades before leaving the BBC in 2013. He later continued broadcasting with Capital XTRA.
The case has progressed through the UK courts, with prosecutors and the defence preparing for further hearings ahead of trial proceedings.
Westwood has been granted bail subject to conditions, including restrictions on contacting prosecution witnesses.
The allegations have not been proven in court, and the defendant is entitled to a fair trial. UK prosecutors have stressed that the decision to bring charges does not determine guilt, which can only be established through criminal proceedings.
