Nigerian troops have dismantled a suspected kidnapping syndicate during a security operation in Imo State, recovering cash believed to be ransom proceeds, a vehicle and other items linked to the criminal network.

The operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected kidnappers operating within parts of the state. Security personnel raided the hideout, leading to the recovery of the suspected ransom money and a vehicle allegedly used by the gang in carrying out abductions.

Military authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping, armed violence and other criminal activities across the South East. They added that investigations are underway to determine the source of the recovered cash and identify additional members of the syndicate.

According to the military, troops have intensified intelligence driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks that have contributed to insecurity in the region. The security forces have also stepped up patrols and surveillance to prevent further attacks on residents.

Officials said the recovered vehicle will undergo forensic examination as investigators seek evidence that could link it to previous kidnapping incidents and assist in the prosecution of those involved.

The military reiterated its commitment to working with other security agencies to restore peace and protect lives and property, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities within their communities.

Authorities noted that collaboration between security agencies and local residents has remained critical in disrupting criminal operations and improving public safety across the state.

The latest operation comes amid intensified nationwide efforts by the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies to curb kidnapping, banditry and organized crime through coordinated intelligence-led operations.
