Troops of the Joint Task Force (Northwest) Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 13 kidnapped victims during separate operations in Anka and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.

In a statement on Wednesday, the task force’s Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said troops of Sector 2 carried out the operations based on credible intelligence, disrupting planned terrorist attacks.

According to Daily Trust, the first operation took place in Bagega, Anka LGA, where troops tracked armed terrorists riding motorcycles towards Tungan Kudaduku.

“Guided by real time surveillance, the troops engaged the terrorists with overwhelming firepower, forcing them to flee. A follow up search led to the discovery of a makeshift terrorist camp where five kidnapped civilians were rescued unharmed,” he said.

In a separate operation at Ungwan Rogo in Kaura Namoda LGA, troops responded to reports of terrorist activities and engaged the suspects in a gun battle.

“The terrorists retreated under heavy fire, abandoning eight kidnapped victims and two vehicles,” the statement added.

The military said all 13 rescued victims had been handed over to the appropriate authorities for care and support.

It added that troops would continue offensive operations across the North West to deny terrorists freedom of movement and sustain pressure on criminal groups.
