Suspected kidnappers have abducted six residents of Nuru Suraj Estate in the Millennium City area of Kaduna State following a midnight attack that left residents in fear.
The attackers reportedly gained entry through the estate’s second gate in the early hours of Tuesday, invading two neighbouring houses and taking several occupants away.
A resident, Maman Hamid, said the incident caused panic in the neighbourhood. Reports indicate that eight people were initially taken, but two elderly women were released, leaving six people, including two secondary school students, reportedly in captivity.
Abdullahi Wada, whose two grandchildren were among those abducted, said the attackers first entered his daughter’s house and took the boys, aged 13 and 14, before moving to a neighbouring home, where a man, his wife and their two children were reportedly abducted.
Military personnel reportedly pursued the attackers, and some victims were rescued. However, the whereabouts of the six reported remaining victims were not immediately confirmed.
The Kaduna State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement at the time of reporting, although a senior security officer reportedly confirmed that an investigation had commenced.
The incident has renewed concerns about the security of residential communities around Millennium City, where previous kidnappings have been reported. Effective intelligence gathering, prompt security responses and cooperation between residents and authorities remain important in efforts to prevent further attacks.
