The Commandant-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, has declared that he will not campaign for any politician ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, saying he is not a politician.
Daurawa made his position known in a Hausa-language message shared on Facebook on Saturday, October 24, amid public criticism over his reported inclusion in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential and gubernatorial campaign advisory committee in Kano State.
The committee reportedly includes Daurawa and Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, a former chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
Responding to the controversy, Daurawa said he hoped that whoever emerged victorious in the elections would be a leader committed to justice, compassion for the poor and protecting the rights of ordinary Nigerians.
He also prayed for leaders who would demonstrate honesty, integrity and accountability while prioritising the welfare of citizens over personal interests.
However, Daurawa did not directly clarify whether he would accept or reject his reported inclusion in the APC campaign advisory committee.
His statement comes amid wider discussions about the involvement of religious leaders in partisan politics, particularly in northern Nigeria, where clerics can influence public conversations about leadership and governance.
His position also highlights calls for political leaders to be judged by their conduct, policies and commitment to public welfare rather than religious or personal affiliations.
