The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has attributed the omission of its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) final list of candidates for the 2027 election to an alleged computer error.
The party’s Public Relations Officer, Yusif Fasaha, said the NDC contacted INEC after discovering that Gwarzo’s name was missing from the list published on October 10.
According to Fasaha, the commission assured the party that the problem would be addressed and that a revised list containing the candidate’s name would be released.
He maintained that Gwarzo had fulfilled the requirements for participating in the election and urged party members and supporters to remain calm while consultations continued.
Gwarzo, a former deputy governor of Kano State, emerged as the NDC’s governorship candidate alongside his running mate, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of the February 6, 2027 election.
The omission has raised concerns about the party’s participation in the governorship contest, particularly as other candidates were included in INEC’s published list.
However, INEC had not publicly confirmed that a computer error was responsible for Gwarzo’s exclusion in the reports reviewed. The explanation therefore remains the NDC’s account of its communication with the commission.
The development comes amid wider controversy over omitted candidates in several states, with affected political parties seeking clarification and exploring available legal and administrative remedies.
