People look at damage to a hydropower plant complex under construction along the Budhi Gandaki river, following a flash flood caused by a dry landslide, at Sallari Chumnubri in Nepal's Gorkha district on October 11, 2026. Flash floods surge along Nepal’s Budhi Gandaki river, destroying buildings and sending muddy waters through the surrounding area. More than 1,400 people died and over 5,000 remain missing after the catastrophic flood hit Nepal on August 26, which was triggered by a mountain and glacier collapse on the China-Nepal border. Flash floods in Nepal have swept away several houses, leaving five people missing as emergency teams respond to the disaster.

The flooding has raised concerns about the safety of residents in affected communities, with damaged homes and possible destruction of local infrastructure adding to the challenges facing rescue operations.

Authorities are expected to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate efforts to locate the missing people. The situation also highlights the risks faced by communities living near rivers and flood-prone areas during periods of intense rainfall.

Nepal is vulnerable to flash floods and landslides, particularly during the monsoon season, when heavy rainfall can cause rivers to rise rapidly and trigger destructive flows of water and debris. Such disasters can destroy homes, disrupt transportation and leave communities isolated.

However, the precise location of the latest flooding, the circumstances surrounding the five missing people and the full extent of the damage require confirmation from current reports.
