The Kebbi State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has clarified that the state government did not newly approve a N75,000 minimum wage specifically for teachers, explaining that the amount had earlier been approved for workers across the state.
The NUT Chairman in Kebbi, Abubakar Zaki Sarki, said teachers are now benefiting from the consequential salary adjustment arising from the approved minimum wage.
According to him, the adjustment followed the verification and review of the state’s teaching workforce and is being implemented for 17,620 verified teachers following Governor Nasir Idris’ approval of the relevant committee’s report.
Sarki said the adjustment is intended to align teachers’ salaries with the existing N75,000 minimum wage structure and close the salary gap between teachers and other workers.
He also disclosed that the state government had approved responsibility allowances for headteachers and assistant headteachers in public primary schools.
The NUT chairman said the adjusted salaries and approved allowances would take effect from September 2026.
He commended the state government for its interventions in the education sector, including the rehabilitation of 2,650 schools and construction of 200 new ones.
