Enugu Rangers climbed to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table after defeating Abia Warriors 3-1 on Sunday, continuing their impressive start to the campaign.
The Flying Antelopes’ latest victory took their tally to 16 points, moving them one point clear of second-placed Rivers United, who have 15 points from seven matches.
Rangers have enjoyed a strong run in recent weeks and will now be focused on maintaining their consistency as they seek to hold on to the summit and build momentum for the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, Enyimba secured their second victory of the campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Plateau United at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
The result lifted the People’s Elephant out of the relegation zone and provided a timely boost after a difficult opening to the season.
Enyimba will hope to build on the victory when they travel to Katsina next Sunday to face Katsina United in their Matchday 8 fixture.
At the other end of the standings, Kunkhalifat’s struggles continued as they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Niger Tornadoes.
The loss left Kunkhalifat rooted to the bottom of the table, piling further pressure on the team to improve their results.
With the season gathering pace, Rangers will look to protect their position at the summit, while Enyimba will aim to turn their recent improvement into a sustained revival. Kunkhalifat, meanwhile, face an urgent battle to end their poor run and climb away from the bottom.
