The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, centre in Ottawa, Canada, from 2027.
The proposed centre will allow eligible Nigerians living in Canada and other parts of North America to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination. JAMB said the initiative is aimed at making the examination more accessible to Nigerians in the diaspora who intend to pursue tertiary education in Nigeria.
The announcement followed a visit by JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, where discussions were held on establishing the examination centre.
JAMB said the initiative is part of its broader effort to expand access to Nigerian tertiary education internationally and strengthen the connection between Nigerians abroad and the Nigerian education system.
The board described the proposed Ottawa centre as an opportunity to reduce the difficulties faced by Nigerians in North America who currently have to travel long distances to take the UTME.
JAMB also said the initiative would create greater opportunities for Nigerians in the diaspora to access Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions.
