Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has met with the Secretary General of the International Criminal Police Organization, INTERPOL, Valdecy Urquiza, in Lyon, France, as part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation against transnational crime.
The meeting took place on Monday, October 5, 2026, during Disu’s maiden official visit to the INTERPOL General Secretariat since assuming office as Inspector General of Police.
According to the Nigeria Police Force, the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in cybercrime, counter terrorism, financial crime, organised crime, fugitive tracking and intelligence sharing.
The two sides also examined ways to improve Nigeria’s use of INTERPOL databases and policing tools to support cross border investigations and criminal intelligence operations.
The engagement further explored technical and operational collaboration aimed at disrupting criminal networks that operate across national borders.
Disu was accompanied by senior police officers, including AIG Olaolu Adegbite, Head of INTERPOL Nigeria and the National Central Bureau, Abuja, AIG Ezima Akaninyene Ifem, Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, and AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Head of the Counter Terrorism Unit.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to working with INTERPOL and other international law enforcement partners to tackle emerging security threats.
The meeting is expected to strengthen information sharing, cross border investigations and coordinated efforts against criminal organisations operating within and beyond Nigeria.
