Architects in Edo State have urged residents to stop patronising unqualified practitioners in the construction industry, warning that building projects handled by quacks could pose serious risks to lives and property.
The professionals said residents should engage registered architects and other certified building professionals when planning and executing construction projects.
They stressed that proper architectural design, professional supervision and compliance with approved building standards were essential to preventing structural failures and ensuring the safety of occupants.
The architects also called on relevant government agencies to strengthen monitoring and enforcement against unqualified individuals operating in the building sector.
They noted that the involvement of untrained practitioners could result in poor designs, substandard construction practices and other defects that may eventually lead to building collapse.
The professionals urged residents to verify the credentials of individuals they hire for construction projects and report suspected cases of quackery to the appropriate authorities.
They said eliminating quackery requires cooperation among government agencies, professional bodies, developers and members of the public.
The architects further advised property owners not to compromise professional standards in an attempt to reduce construction costs, noting that cutting corners could lead to greater financial losses and endanger lives.
