The Bayelsa State Police Command has vowed to intensify its crackdown on cultists and other violent criminals across the state, with the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Ajao Saka Adewale, promising an intelligence driven approach to tackling insecurity.
Adewale, who recently assumed office as the 39th Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, said the command would prioritise the fight against cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, maritime crimes, illegal firearms, drug offences and other organised criminal activities.
He said the police would strengthen intelligence gathering, crime mapping and targeted operations to identify criminal networks and disrupt their activities. The CP added that the command would focus on dismantling the leadership, funding and logistics networks of cult groups and other criminal organisations.
Adewale also promised increased patrols across the state, particularly in waterways and other crime prone areas, noting that Bayelsa’s riverine terrain requires specialised security strategies.
He called for stronger cooperation between the police, other security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, youths and residents to improve security.
The commissioner urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crimes and apprehending suspected criminals.
