The Arewa Consultative Forum has urged Nigerians to hold political leaders accountable for their performance, particularly in addressing insecurity, poverty, economic hardship and other challenges affecting the country.
ACF Chairman, Mamman Osuman, made the call in his message marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. He expressed concern over the displacement of citizens, disruption of economic activities, closure of schools and destruction of livelihoods caused by insecurity and other challenges.
Osuman said some of the difficulties confronting Nigerians were being perpetrated or aggravated by people entrusted with leadership and governance. He urged public officials to regard political authority as a responsibility to citizens and the common good.
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the ACF chairman called on eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in the electoral process. He urged voters to assess candidates based on their records, policies and positions on issues rather than simply following directives from political parties.
He also warned against election-related violence, particularly among youths, and called on political actors and citizens to reject inflammatory rhetoric, provocation and actions capable of threatening lives and property.
Osuman said securing Nigeria’s future would require shared responsibility among government, citizens and other institutions, alongside renewed commitment to peace, justice, unity and good governance.
