Ministry, NHYPPADEC Explore Partnership on Rural Livestock Development

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and the Hadejia-Nguru Wetlands and Catchment Development Authority (NHYPPADEC) are considering a partnership to strengthen livestock development and improve livelihoods in rural communities.

The proposed collaboration is expected to focus on practical interventions that can support livestock farmers, improve access to grazing and water resources, and strengthen agricultural activities in communities within NHYPPADEC’s area of operation.

Discussions around the partnership reflect growing efforts by government agencies to coordinate rural development programmes rather than implement livestock and agricultural interventions separately.

For rural livestock producers, better access to water, animal health services, feed and supporting infrastructure can improve productivity and reduce some of the pressures affecting livestock production.

The collaboration could also provide opportunities for broader investment in rural communities by linking livestock development with water management, irrigation and other agricultural infrastructure.

Further details on the specific projects, funding arrangements and implementation framework were not immediately disclosed.
