The Kano State Government has arrested more than 380 suspects and secured over 230 convictions in the first two months of its intensified campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Governor Abba Yusuf disclosed this on Thursday during the 66th Independence Anniversary celebration at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kano.
Yusuf said the state established the Kano State Multi Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in July 2026 and issued an Executive Order to strengthen the fight against illicit substances, thuggery and related criminal activities.
The task force has conducted operations targeting drug joints and criminal hideouts across the state. Authorities said the operations led to the recovery of substances including Cannabis Sativa, Tramadol, Diazepam, Pentazocine and Pregabalin, as well as locally made weapons.
The task force also reported the seizure of about 870,000 Pregabalin capsules from a pharmaceutical company over alleged diversion for illicit use.
About 125 people have been referred for rehabilitation at the Kano Reformatory Institute in Kiru, while the state government has provided an additional rehabilitation facility in Tofa Local Government Area.
The task force said it is targeting 10,000 youths for rehabilitation, skills acquisition and reintegration into society.
Yusuf urged young people to reject drug abuse, violence and criminality and embrace education, agriculture, technology, vocational training, enterprise and creative industries.
