President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu attended the national premiere of MKO, a documentary on the life and political legacy of late businessman and politician, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, in Lagos on Thursday.
The premiere was held at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day.
The documentary, directed by Nigerian American filmmaker Ose Oyamendan, revisits the June 12, 1993 presidential election, its annulment, Abiola’s detention and the pro democracy struggle that followed.
It features archival footage and accounts from prominent figures connected to the period, including former military leaders Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka and Tinubu.
The film previously premiered internationally at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival in the United Kingdom in June 2026.
Following the Lagos premiere, MKO is scheduled to open in cinemas nationwide from October 2.
