Google has unveiled Gemini 4 Argon, a new flagship artificial intelligence model designed to power the company’s next generation of Gemini systems, following months of delays. The model is aimed at complex, long-running tasks across software engineering, enterprise work, legal and financial analysis, and cybersecurity.
Google says Argon is larger than its previous top-tier Pro models and is already being used internally for advanced engineering and research tasks. The company highlighted work including large-scale C/C++ to Rust code migrations and optimization projects across its infrastructure.
The company is taking a phased approach to the launch. Argon is initially being made available to selected cybersecurity defenders through Google’s Fairwind Program, with wider access planned for developers, businesses and consumers after further safety testing. Google has not announced a specific date for general availability.
Google’s announcement comes after a period in which the company focused on smaller Gemini models while rivals including OpenAI and Anthropic released newer flagship systems. The Gemini 4 rollout signals Google’s renewed push into increasingly capable AI models, particularly in coding and cybersecurity.
