Google’s Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, marking a major milestone in the company’s push to compete in the rapidly expanding generative AI market.

Google said the milestone reflects growing demand for Gemini’s AI capabilities, including writing, research, image generation, information discovery and other everyday tasks.

The achievement strengthens Google’s position in the increasingly competitive AI assistant market, where companies are racing to attract users and integrate artificial intelligence into consumer products.

Google has also been expanding Gemini across its broader ecosystem, including smartphones, search and productivity services. This gives the company multiple channels through which to bring its AI tools to consumers.

The milestone comes as competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other AI platforms continues to intensify. With more than 1 billion monthly users, Gemini is becoming one of the world’s largest consumer-facing AI applications.
