Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has said his administration does not owe workers, teachers or pensioners any salary arrears, pensions or gratuities.
Idris stated this on Tuesday at the 59th National Conference of Delegates of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in Enugu, where he highlighted his administration’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare and the education sector.
The governor said the state had maintained an up to date payment system for salaries, pensions, gratuities and death benefits across the state, local government areas and local government education authorities.
He also disclosed that his administration had absorbed more than 5,000 professional workers, including teachers, medical personnel and lawyers, into the permanent civil service to address casualisation.
According to him, about 6,144 civil servants, including teachers and health workers, had also been recruited to strengthen the workforce.
Idris said his administration had increased teachers’ years of service from 35 to 40 years and was working to improve conditions for workers across different sectors.
He further said more than 2,000 schools had been constructed, renovated or furnished as part of efforts to improve basic education and reduce the number of out of school children in the state.
