Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has called for stronger cooperation between African and Caribbean countries to address climate change, sustainable infrastructure and development financing.
Sule made the call in New York at a high-level dialogue held alongside the 81st United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week. The meeting brought together government officials, business leaders, development institutions and other stakeholders from Africa and the Caribbean.
The governor said partnerships between the two regions should move beyond discussions and international commitments to practical programmes capable of improving living conditions and strengthening economic resilience.
He stressed the role of subnational governments in mobilising investment, building climate resilience and creating an environment that supports sustainable economic development.
Sule also called for innovative financing mechanisms to help developing economies respond to climate-related challenges, arguing that resilience should be incorporated into development planning, infrastructure projects and investment decisions.
He encouraged closer cooperation among governments, private-sector players, financial institutions and international development organisations to expand access to funding and accelerate sustainable development.
The governor’s participation provided a Nigerian subnational perspective in discussions on Africa-Caribbean cooperation, while also creating opportunities to engage potential partners on investment, climate resilience and development financing.
