US President Donald Trump is set to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, with his speech coming at a tense moment marked by the war involving Iran, economic pressures and growing debate over artificial intelligence.
Trump’s appearance will be his first at the UN since the United States and Israel launched military action against Iran in February. The conflict has continued despite Trump’s earlier expectation that it would be short-lived, while Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz has contributed to higher global energy prices and inflation concerns.
The US president is also expected to discuss his administration’s approach to artificial intelligence. Trump recently announced plans for an “AI force” and has argued that the technology could become a major contributor to the US economy while maintaining America’s technological advantage over China.
Trump is expected to hold several meetings with world leaders during the UN gathering, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Ukraine war, energy security and broader international tensions are expected to feature prominently in diplomatic discussions.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is also attending the UN General Assembly, although it remains uncertain whether he will meet Trump.
The speech comes as governments face growing concerns over conflict, energy markets, artificial intelligence and the future role of multilateral institutions.
