A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that staying in the party ahead of the 2027 general elections amounts to “political suicide.” He argued that the PDP has lost its grip on national politics and continues to struggle with internal divisions, making it difficult for the party to mount a credible challenge.
The ex-chairman noted that many politicians are already defecting to other platforms, stressing that the PDP’s inability to resolve leadership crises and build a united front has weakened its chances. He warned that those who remain in the party risk being politically irrelevant by 2027.
According to him, the emergence of new coalitions and the dominance of the ruling party have shifted the political landscape, leaving PDP at a disadvantage. He urged members to rethink their strategy and align with platforms that can guarantee survival and relevance in the coming elections.
Analysts say his comments reflect growing frustration among PDP stakeholders, as the party continues to battle defections and dwindling influence across the country.
