The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has uncovered a factory allegedly involved in the production of fake juice in Lagos State and arrested two suspects in connection with the operation.
The factory was reportedly discovered on Talabi Onilegbale Street, Aradagun, in the Olorunda Local Council Development Area of Lagos. The operation followed intelligence received by the NSCDC, leading officers to the suspected production facility.
Authorities alleged that the factory produced beverages branded as Barkas Juice using water, chemicals, colourants and sweeteners. Officials also raised concerns over the alleged use of a counterfeit National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, registration number on the products.
The two female suspects were arrested during the operation, while investigations continued to establish the extent of their involvement in the alleged production and distribution of the beverages.
The NSCDC’s action highlights concerns about counterfeit food products and the potential health risks associated with consuming unregulated beverages. Authorities are expected to investigate the production process and take appropriate legal action based on their findings.
