Goldman Sachs has appointed Simon Lyons as co-head of its UK investment banking business, strengthening its senior leadership as the US bank expands its position in European dealmaking.
Lyons will serve alongside existing co-head Nimesh Khiroya and is expected to join Goldman Sachs as a partner later this year. He will be based in London.
Lyons previously served as co-head of Europe at Ardea Partners and was a founding partner at PJT Partners. Earlier in his career, he headed UK mergers and acquisitions at UBS.
His appointment comes as Goldman Sachs maintains a strong position in the UK mergers and acquisitions market. LSEG data cited by Reuters showed that the bank ranked first for UK M&A activity so far in 2026, advising on 69 deals worth a combined $175 billion.
Among the transactions Goldman advised on were Unilever Foods’ merger with McCormick, Tate & Lyle’s takeover by Ingredion and Zurich’s acquisition of Beazley.
The bank has also expanded its senior European team through several recent appointments as competition for major corporate transactions intensifies.
Lyons has advised companies including NatWest on its acquisition of Evelyn Partners and UK-listed Mitie on its sale to OCS.
His appointment is expected to further strengthen Goldman Sachs’ UK investment banking operation and its relationships with major corporate clients.
