Starbucks Workers Face Sharp Rise in Health Insurance Costs

Starbucks workers in the US are facing sharp increases in health insurance premiums, with some reporting that costs will nearly double from October.

A survey of more than 130 unionised and non-unionised workers found several employees struggling to afford coverage alongside everyday expenses. One worker said her weekly premium would rise from $130 to $170, while another reported an increase from $70 to $122 per fortnight.

Some workers said they may drop their coverage, seek second jobs or consider leaving Starbucks as healthcare costs rise.

Starbucks said it continues to face higher healthcare expenses while remaining committed to providing affordable coverage for eligible employees.

The increases come amid an ongoing dispute between the company and Starbucks Workers United over a first contract.
