Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved the immediate release of appointment letters to 4,000 successful candidates selected through the state’s recent civil service recruitment exercise.

The appointments will take effect from October 1, 2026, with the new employees expected to resume work on October 2, according to details released following the governor’s approval.

Eno gave the approval on Friday after receiving the recruitment report from the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service Commission, Ekereobong Umoh, at the Government House in Uyo.

The recruitment exercise attracted significant interest, with more than 36,000 people registering for the process. About 12,000 candidates qualified for the first interview stage, while applicants who scored at least 50 per cent in the Computer-Based Test proceeded to an oral interview before the final selection of 4,000 candidates.

The state government also approved the recruitment of 2,000 additional teachers through the State Universal Basic Education Board. The move is aimed at strengthening staffing levels in primary schools across the state’s 31 local government areas.

The teaching recruitment represents an increase from the earlier plan to employ 1,000 teachers, effectively doubling the number of positions approved for the exercise.

Governor Eno said the recruitment was intended to provide fair opportunities for qualified residents to join the state workforce. He also commended members of the recruitment team for what he described as a transparent and merit-based process.

The Chairman of the Civil Service Commission said the exercise was designed to give qualified applicants, including persons living with disabilities and pregnant women, an opportunity to participate.

The latest appointments are expected to expand the state’s public-sector workforce while providing thousands of residents with formal employment opportunities. The government’s decision to increase the number of teaching positions also comes as the state continues to develop and staff schools across its local government areas.
