The Federal Government has suspended a commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) following the deaths of some miners while in custody.

The suspension comes amid investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths and concerns over the treatment of the miners while they were detained.

Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to establish what led to the deaths and determine whether any officers or personnel were responsible for misconduct or negligence.

The development has drawn attention to the need for proper procedures in the detention and handling of individuals in security custody.
