The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and African Union member states are advancing plans for a harmonised Behavioural Intelligence and Infodemic Management (BIIM) framework to strengthen public health decision-making across Africa.
The initiative brings together behavioural and social data, community feedback, social listening, service-delivery information and rapid research to turn fragmented evidence into actionable intelligence for health authorities.
The framework was reviewed and validated during a technical workshop in Mombasa, Kenya, from August 30 to September 3. Representatives from six African countries, alongside ECOWAS and WHO partners, participated in the process.
Africa CDC says the goal is not to create another database or parallel reporting system, but to connect existing national capabilities through common standards for data quality, governance and interoperability. The next phase will focus on institutionalisation, national implementation pathways and priority public health applications.
