The Lagos State Police Command has summoned a police officer for questioning after a Lagos resident alleged that he was assaulted and extorted during an encounter with the officer.
The development followed a complaint made by the man, who accused the officer of subjecting him to physical assault and demanding money from him.
The Commissioner of Police has directed that the allegations be investigated to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether the officer breached police regulations or the law.
The summons comes amid continued efforts by the police authorities to address complaints of misconduct, particularly allegations involving extortion, intimidation and the abuse of police powers.
The complainant is expected to provide details of the incident as part of the investigation, while the officer involved will also have the opportunity to respond to the allegations.
