A fuel tanker has fallen across a major road in Anambra State, disrupting traffic and leaving motorists stranded as efforts are being made to clear the obstruction.
The incident caused a significant traffic build-up along the affected route, with motorists forced to slow down or seek alternative routes.
Emergency and traffic management personnel are expected to move in to secure the area and prevent further danger, particularly because of the risk associated with the tanker reportedly carrying petroleum products.
The incident has also raised fresh concerns about the safety of tanker operations on Nigerian roads, where accidents involving petroleum tankers can quickly escalate into major emergencies if fuel spills or comes into contact with a source of ignition.
Motorists approaching the affected section have been advised to exercise caution and, where possible, use alternative routes until the tanker is removed and normal traffic flow is restored.
Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances that led to the accident and determine whether excessive speed, mechanical failure, road conditions or other factors contributed to the incident.
No fatalities or injuries have been confirmed in the information currently available.
