Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a terrorist attack on a military base in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, leaving four soldiers injured.
The attack occurred at about 10:50 p.m. on August 28 when terrorists targeted troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion in Kukawa.
According to the task force spokesperson, Captain Mohammed Goni, the troops responded with coordinated direct and indirect fire, forcing the attackers to retreat towards the Cross Kauwa axis.
Several terrorists were reportedly neutralised during the encounter, while others sustained gunshot wounds as they fled.
The military subsequently deployed air assets to pursue the fleeing terrorists. An air strike reportedly killed about 10 fighters hiding under trees, while another precision strike, guided by intelligence and surveillance assets, killed an additional 15 terrorists and destroyed 10 motorcycles.
Ground troops also killed another terrorist and recovered two motorcycles, ammunition and other items during follow-up operations, bringing the military’s estimated number of terrorists killed to about 26.
The four wounded soldiers were evacuated by air for medical attention and were said to be in stable condition, with none sustaining life-threatening injuries.
The military said the coordinated ground and air operations disrupted the attack and significantly reduced the terrorists’ ability to regroup or launch further attacks in the area.
Troops have since commenced further exploitation and reorganisation of the area as operations continue to degrade terrorist networks and protect communities across the North-East.
