Kenya Airport Strike Leaves Thousands of Passengers Stranded as Flights Face Disruption

Thousands of passengers have been left stranded at Kenya’s main international airport after aviation workers began a second day of strike action, causing widespread delays and flight cancellations.

Operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi were severely disrupted as members of the Kenya Aviation Workers Union downed tools over unresolved labour grievances, including stalled collective bargaining negotiations and employment-related concerns.

Several travellers spent hours at the airport waiting for information, with some flights repeatedly delayed before being cancelled. Airlines have also arranged hotel accommodation for passengers affected by the disruption.

Union and government representatives held talks but failed to reach an immediate agreement. Further negotiations are expected as the strike continues, leaving the timing of a return to normal airport operations uncertain.
