Opposition leaders including Donald Duke, Adewale Adebayo, and Babangida Aliyu have arrived at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja for the G-100 opposition summit, aimed at forging a united front against President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 elections. The summit is being described as a historic step toward opposition cooperation.
The event, convened by political pressure group G-100 under the leadership of Salihu Lukman, seeks to build a framework for opposition collaboration ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Donald Duke, former Cross River State governor and PRP presidential candidate, emphasized that opposition parties risk rigging against themselves if they contest separately, stressing the need for unity against the ruling APC.
Other notable attendees include Adewale Adebayo of the SDP, Babangida Aliyu, former Niger State governor, Lawal Daura of the APM, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed of the PRP, Usman Bugaje of the SDP, Fred Agbedi, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, and Bolaji Abdullahi of the ADC.
While the summit is expected to establish a formal framework for opposition cooperation, the PDP has rejected the gathering, describing any opposition talks without its participation as dead on arrival.
The summit marks the beginning of structured negotiations on opposition unity, with discussions centered on the possibility of presenting a single candidate to challenge the APC in 2027.
