The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria is set to convene its 19th Annual Banking and Finance Conference, bringing together policymakers, financial sector leaders, regulators and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s economy amid ongoing economic disruptions.

The two day conference is scheduled to hold on September 8 and 9, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, under the theme, “Building a Resilient Economy in an Era of Disruptions: Imperatives for the Banking and Financial Services Industry.”

The gathering is expected to focus on some of the major economic and financial challenges confronting Nigeria while providing a platform for stakeholders to develop practical strategies capable of supporting economic stability, growth and resilience.

The conference is designed to move beyond discussions by generating actionable recommendations that can contribute to policymaking across the financial sector and the wider economy. Resolutions from the event are expected to be compiled into a communiqué for consideration by relevant fiscal and monetary authorities.

The conference will bring together government officials, regulators, bankers, corporate executives, technology providers, development partners, academics and other professionals within the financial services ecosystem.

Among the expected participants are senior government officials and key figures in Nigeria’s financial sector, including the President, the Vice President, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Discussions at the conference are expected to cover issues including economic resilience, financial stability, innovation, cybersecurity, financial inclusion and the role of the banking industry in supporting sustainable economic development.

The programme will also feature a dedicated women focused session aimed at examining female leadership and its contribution to sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

The event is expected to attract thousands of participants from Nigeria and beyond, with keynote presentations, business sessions and panel discussions forming major components of the programme.

The conference comes at a time when Nigeria’s financial sector is undergoing significant reforms, while businesses and households continue to face inflationary pressures, financing challenges, exchange rate concerns and uncertainties arising from developments in the global economy.

Stakeholders are therefore expected to use the platform to examine how the banking industry can support productive investment, improve access to finance and contribute more effectively to sustainable economic growth.

The discussions are also expected to strengthen collaboration among regulators, financial institutions, businesses and other stakeholders as Nigeria seeks to build a more resilient financial system capable of responding effectively to future economic disruptions.
