Tax compliance has been identified as a key factor in improving infrastructure and providing essential social services to citizens.
Experts and stakeholders said regular payment of taxes would strengthen government revenue and enable authorities to fund critical projects such as roads, schools, healthcare facilities, water supply and other public services.
They stressed that citizens and businesses have important roles to play by meeting their tax obligations, while governments must ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
The stakeholders also called for improved tax administration, public awareness and policies that would make tax payment easier and encourage more people and businesses to comply.
They noted that stronger tax compliance would help reduce dependence on borrowing and provide governments with more resources to drive sustainable development.
