An officer of the Edo State Security Corps, Martins Enahoro, and two other persons have been killed in separate violent incidents recorded in Sobe and Ewatto communities in Edo State.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the deaths on Monday, saying the incidents occurred on Sunday, August 23, 2026. Fifteen suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the violence, while injured persons are receiving treatment in various hospitals.
In Sobe, youths allegedly attacked police and security personnel who were deployed following a report of assault and malicious damage. Three security corps personnel sustained serious injuries during the confrontation, while three youths also suffered pellet injuries. One of the youths later died while receiving treatment.
The police said two locally made single barrel guns belonging to the security personnel were also taken during the incident but were later recovered. Eleven suspects were arrested in connection with the Sobe violence.
In a separate incident at Ewatto, Enahoro was reportedly attacked by suspected members of a confraternity group. Police said he attempted to defend himself and stabbed one of his attackers, identified as Gbozia.
Enahoro later sustained multiple cut injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Ewohimi, where both he and Gbozia were confirmed dead.
Four suspects were arrested in connection with the Ewatto incident, with two allegedly confessing to belonging to the Vikings and Aiye confraternities.
The police have reinforced security in the affected areas and said investigations are ongoing. Authorities also urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information to security agencies.
