Strategy sets aside $1.6 billion cash pool for bitcoin purchases and share buybacks

Michael Saylor’s Strategy has set aside about $1.6 billion in cash to fund future treasury operations, including potential bitcoin purchases, share buybacks and other corporate activities.

The company disclosed the move in a regulatory filing on Monday, describing the new liquidity reserve as “USD Cash.” It will operate separately from an existing reserve created to fund dividends on preferred stock and interest payments on outstanding debt.

Strategy said the new cash pool gives it greater flexibility in managing its finances while continuing its long term bitcoin acquisition strategy.

The fund could be used to buy more bitcoin, repurchase shares or support other treasury and corporate transactions. It also provides the company with cash reserves that could help it navigate periods of volatility in the cryptocurrency market.

Strategy is the world’s largest corporate holder of bitcoin and has made the cryptocurrency the centrepiece of its treasury strategy under Executive Chairman Michael Saylor.

The announcement comes after a strong rally in bitcoin, which has gained more than 13% over the past week after U.S. President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass legislation establishing clearer rules for digital assets.

Bitcoin climbed above $70,000 last week for the first time since June, supported by optimism over U.S. crypto regulation and broader gains in risk assets.

Cryptocurrencies have also benefited after the U.S. Treasury Department expanded long duration debt buybacks, helping ease bond yields, which tend to weigh on higher risk investments when they rise.

Despite the recent rebound, bitcoin remains below the record highs it reached during last year’s rally.
