The Benue State Police Command has arrested five Pakistani nationals over suspected clandestine activities in rural parts of Otukpo and Okpokwu Local Government Areas of the state.
According to the command, the arrests were made during separate intelligence-led operations on August 4 and 5, 2026, following credible information about the suspects’ movements and activities.
Three of the suspects, identified as Younas Mohammad, 36, Ahmad Nunil, 38, and Aslam Muhammad, 46, were arrested at Adoka Motor Park in Otukpo while allegedly attempting to board a vehicle to Adoka village.
The suspects reportedly told investigators that they were in the area to market cosmetics and mobile gadgets, but police said none of the claimed merchandise was found in their possession, raising questions about their activities.
In a separate operation in Ugbokolo, Okpokwu LGA, police arrested two other Pakistani nationals, Juma Sharif, 30, and Muhammed Sharif, 25, at a local hotel. The suspects reportedly claimed to be dealers in Android phones.
Police said searches conducted during the operations led to the recovery of 35 mobile phones, including 11 Tecno Camon 50 Pro devices. The command said the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to establish the purpose of their presence and activities in the affected communities.
