The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Senator David Mark, has warned political actors against electoral manipulation, intimidation and the abuse of state institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mark gave the warning when a delegation of the International Republican Institute, IRI, visited the ADC national headquarters in Abuja as part of its pre-election assessment mission.
He said the credibility of the 2027 elections must be non-negotiable, stressing that the electoral process should be transparent, inclusive, peaceful and free from manipulation.
The former Senate President also expressed concern over the alleged abuse of the electoral process by governments in power and non-state actors.
Mark urged political parties and other stakeholders to respect democratic principles and ensure that citizens are allowed to freely choose their leaders without intimidation or interference.
He said a credible electoral process would be critical to restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy and ensuring that the outcome of the 2027 elections reflects the genuine choice of voters.
He further called on stakeholders to work together to prevent violence, vote manipulation and the misuse of government institutions before, during and after the elections.
