The Anambra State Police Command has introduced a new monitoring mechanism to strengthen supervision of police checkpoints, patrol teams and other operational activities across the state.

The initiative was announced by the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, following feedback received during recent security stakeholders’ interactive sessions held across the three senatorial districts.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the new system will enable the Command’s Operational Control Rooms to maintain closer oversight of personnel deployed to strategic locations.

Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders will also be required to account for the activities of officers under their supervision, particularly at checkpoints and patrol formations.

The police said the measure is aimed at improving accountability and professionalism while eliminating extortion, harassment and other forms of misconduct by officers.

CP Ama warned that no police officer would be allowed to abuse the authority entrusted to them or exploit members of the public. He further directed senior commanders to ensure strict compliance with the directive and said officers found engaging in extortion or other misconduct would face disciplinary action.

The command urged residents and other members of the public to report cases of extortion, harassment or unprofessional conduct through its established communication channels.

The police said the initiative forms part of efforts to promote professional, accountable and people-oriented policing across Anambra State.
