Velaura AI has joined the growing ranks of AI hardware unicorns after raising $110 million in a Series A funding round, pushing the chip designer’s valuation above $1 billion.
The funding round was led by Seligman Ventures, with participation from new investor Capricorn Investment Group and existing backers including Samsung Catalyst Fund, StepStone Group and Maverick Silicon.
Formerly known as Auradine, Velaura AI focuses on developing ultra-low-power semiconductor technology designed to reduce the energy consumption and operating costs of AI infrastructure. The company says its technology can improve power efficiency in AI computing while maintaining performance.
The new investment comes as demand for AI data centers continues to surge, putting increasing pressure on electricity supplies and infrastructure costs. Velaura is positioning its technology as a way for data-center operators and chip companies to achieve greater computing performance within existing power constraints.
Velaura’s latest valuation highlights the growing investor interest in energy-efficient AI chips, as the semiconductor industry looks beyond raw processing power toward reducing the enormous energy requirements of modern AI systems.
