Pop icon Madonna has topped the nominations for the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards with 11 nods, four decades after her groundbreaking performance at the inaugural ceremony.
Madonna is nominated for Video of the Year for “Confessions II – The Film” and Artist of the Year, among other categories. Taylor Swift follows with nine nominations, including Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia.”
Madonna, who has won 20 VMAs, made history at the first ceremony in 1984 with her provocative performance of “Like a Virgin.” She later received the Video Vanguard Award in 1986.
Swift, who shares the record for most VMA wins with Beyoncé at 30, is among several leading nominees alongside Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter, who each received seven nominations.
Fans can vote in 13 categories, with winners to be announced on September 27 during a live ceremony on CBS and MTV, with streaming available on Paramount.
