The Plateau State Government has approved the establishment of a Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction as part of efforts to strengthen the coordination of humanitarian assistance, social protection and poverty-reduction programmes across the state.
The decision was reached during the Plateau State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House in Jos.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, the new ministry will incorporate the activities of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Trauma Centre.
The council also approved the procurement and installation of 199 CCTV cameras in two phases, alongside 4,029 solar-powered streetlight infrastructure units across the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.
The government said the measures are designed to strengthen surveillance, improve public safety and enhance security within the metropolis.
The council further approved the renovation of administrative buildings at the Jos Main Market and Satellite Market to improve their functionality and management.
The latest decisions form part of the Mutfwang administration’s broader efforts to improve security, humanitarian response, infrastructure and service delivery across Plateau State.
