Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning education in the state by promoting practical skills, innovation and entrepreneurship alongside academic qualifications.
The Governor stated this when a delegation of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), led by Garba Danasabe, visited him as part of the accreditation assessment of the Adamawa State College of Innovation, Science and Entrepreneurship.
The NBTE team is assessing the institution’s programmes, facilities and documentation to determine compliance with national standards and identify areas requiring improvement.
Governor Fintiri welcomed the assessment, assuring the team that the state government would provide the necessary support and implement recommendations that would strengthen the institution and facilitate its accreditation.
He, however, stressed that his administration’s ambition goes beyond securing accreditation for the institution. According to him, the goal is to produce graduates who possess practical and entrepreneurial skills capable of making them economically productive.
Fintiri said no student should graduate from the state’s education system with a certificate alone without acquiring a skill that can provide a means of livelihood.
He also expressed his determination to expand the college beyond its initial seven programmes, saying the government would continue to invest in the institution and meet the requirements for additional programmes.
The Governor said strengthening technical education would help equip young people with relevant skills, encourage entrepreneurship, reduce dependence on white collar jobs and contribute to the economic development of Adamawa State.
The NBTE delegation said the assessment would provide an objective evaluation of the institution and guide the state government on the steps required to achieve sustainable accreditation.
The development is expected to strengthen technical and vocational education in Adamawa while creating greater opportunities for young people to acquire employable skills and become job creators.
