Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military base in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, when a large number of terrorists attempted to overrun the Forward Operating Base.
According to the military, troops responded with sustained firepower, forcing the attackers to withdraw after suffering heavy casualties.
The Acting Military Information Officer of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Muhammed Goni, said several terrorists were neutralised during the encounter.
He added that troops recovered weapons, ammunition and communication equipment from the attackers, while surveillance footage showed several casualties being evacuated by the retreating terrorists.
However, some soldiers sustained injuries after part of the base’s defensive position was temporarily breached. Some military vehicles and combat equipment were also damaged by rocket-propelled grenade fire.
The injured personnel were promptly evacuated by air and were reported to be in stable condition while receiving medical attention.
Following the attack, troops remained deployed around the Gajiram base and adjoining areas to maintain security, monitor the situation and prevent further attempts by the terrorists to re-engage.
The military urged residents of Gajiram and surrounding communities to remain calm and report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on ISWAP and other terrorist groups in the North-East until lasting peace and stability are restored.
