The Federal Government has intensified efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing framework as it shifts its focus from policy development to measurable results ahead of the 2027 Financial Action Task Force (FATF) mutual evaluation.
Authorities said the renewed approach prioritises effective implementation of existing reforms, improved inter-agency collaboration, and demonstrable outcomes in the fight against money laundering, terrorism financing, and other financial crimes.
Officials noted that Nigeria has made significant progress in aligning its legal and regulatory frameworks with international standards and is now concentrating on ensuring that enforcement actions, investigations, prosecutions, and asset recovery efforts produce tangible results before the 2027 assessment.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening financial integrity, enhancing transparency, and improving compliance with global best practices, stressing that a positive outcome in the FATF evaluation would boost investor confidence, support economic growth, and reinforce Nigeria’s standing in the international financial system.
Stakeholders across relevant institutions have also been urged to sustain coordinated efforts to ensure the country demonstrates effective implementation of its anti-financial crime measures ahead of the evaluation.
