Several communities in Sokoto State have reportedly been deserted after renewed bandit attacks forced residents to flee their homes in search of safety.

The attacks, which targeted villages in parts of the state, have heightened fears among residents, with many abandoning their communities over persistent threats to lives and property. Local sources said the sustained violence has disrupted normal activities, leaving farmlands, markets and schools largely deserted.

Residents have appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify operations against the armed groups and restore peace to the affected communities. They also called for increased security presence to enable displaced families to return to their homes without fear of further attacks.

Authorities have continued efforts to contain banditry across Sokoto and other North-West states through coordinated security operations. However, stakeholders have stressed the need for sustained military action, improved intelligence gathering and stronger community collaboration to address the recurring security challenges.

The latest attacks underscore the ongoing security concerns in parts of the North-West, where repeated incidents of banditry have displaced thousands of residents and affected livelihoods. Security agencies have assured the public of continued operations aimed at restoring normalcy and protecting lives and property.
